Very disappointing experience with Preply

Preply has been a truly frustrating platform to deal with. Their rules are confusing and inflexible, and they charge nonsense fees without proper expla
nation. I ended up losing three lessons due to their unclear policies.

Customer support is just as bad — they take over a day to respond, and when they finally do, they simply copy-paste the same replies without actually solving anything. It feels like talking to a wall.

The platform is hard to navigate, and once something goes wrong, there’s zero real help. I’m extremely disappointed and will not be using Preply again. I definitely do not recommend it to anyone.

I collaborate with Preply.com more than 5 years and I always had very good experience. They answer immediately and always do everything to solve the problem very quickly. Today I had problem with the visibility of my profile and obviously it was my mistake but the preply support stayed with me, even if it is Eastern and they helped. Now is everything working

My lessons were good but the tutor had to change her schedule which didn't suit me. I navigated the site to the refunds page (not easy for a man in his sixties!), and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to obtain a refund and cancelmy subscription

The support team is so quick to responding to everyones request and it is something very important, having issues and it been quickly reviewed is a great experience. I recommend this platform if you want a structured and serious learning.

An accomplished learning platform

An accomplished learning platform i have ever seen and well organized and structured is Preply. Since i became a tutor on this platform, everything about it has been good. The support team is so quick to responding to everyones request and it is something very important, having issues and it been quickly reviewed is a great experience. I recommend this platform if you want a structured and serious learning.

I've had a wonderful experience with Preply, both as a student and a tutor. The platform is incredibly user-friendly and makes it easy to find tutors for virtually any subject or language. A help and hand

The help center is professional and do everything they can to help. It does require patience when receiving service though their chat but they definitely will help and provide a solution or discount to help the situation. 10/10 for me.

Preply needs to improve their Customer Support service.

I have been a long-term user from Preply language learning platform and have had great experiences with professional tutors and teachers. Nevertheless, every time I need to contact Preply for having a support, it's been always the same, that is to say, it takes long time to get things solved as it seems Preply does not invest in its Customer Support training or doesn't have enough staff to provide a quick Customer support, which puts me off in keepin using it.
Apart from that, the Preply tutors I have been working with are great.

Preply funds still not transferred…

Preply responded promptly to my review 3 days ago {copied below} but unfortunately at this point my funds still have not been transferred.

$70 and Preply can't simply pay out!
As a tutor on the platform since December 2024, there was a hitch last month, which was resolved and now when trying to withdraw hard-earned funds (which is only really slightly more than $70) instead of receiving funds immediately, its a week since a withdrawal was initiated, and still payment has not yet been processed.

Amazing support to tutors and students!

As a tutor, the Preply support team has always provided me with excellent service! I have also always been able to refer my students to them, knowing that they will assist the student! Price increases and difficult to use subscriptions

I'm an avid language learner and traditionally have preferred in-person lessons or language exchanges/cafes (good old days), but after struggling to find a tutor near me, I turned to online lessons and came across Preply. It is a great platform that there are so many tutors to choose from, for all budgets and you can schedule the lessons by choosing from tutor's schedule.

But I was looking for regular, consistent long term learning (years, not months). I've been a student for 4-5 months and while the tutor has generally been great, consider that I am reviewing the Preply platform here (not the tutor) and in hindsight, I wouldn't choose Preply again.

1) the subscription price has been raised 300% since I joined. I don't mind paying a fair wage and was happy to pay the first two increases, because it was a fair rate and the tutor was reasonably skilled (but not professionally trained). However, on Preply's rating system, she became a super tutor, so they are entitled to charge much higher rates due to their popularity.

2) When the tutor takes a holiday or removes times from future schedules, I have to reschedule some lessons. But Preply still takes the subscription unless I change the date, which I did. However you can only do it once, even though the tutor can modify their schedule again. This means the student is pressured to schedule many lessons in a short time frame, because there is a no refund policy (which I understood). In the end, it can be hard to use up the paid allocation even if there is flexibility from tutor and student - since we all deserve holidays!

3) Related to point 2, the subscription model renews on a monthly basis, but I often found one or two of my reserved weekly slots were not available. This was quite inconvenient and gave less routine to my learning journey.

4) No refund policy. Not really sure why unused credit is lost, simply because you didn't use it within 1 month, but fine I read the small print and agreed to it.

I only once asked Preply for a partial lesson credit, when the Preply classroom wouldnt't connect us. The tutor was waiting for me, and I was waiting for them but it wouldn't connect us. Tutor's time wasted. My lesson credit used.

Obviously a technical issue, but Preply's answer was they don't give credits and said I should ask the tutor to give a free make-up lesson but they're fully booked so Preply said I could do it on another platform. The tutor or student has to take the loss for any platform issues, rather than Preply.

Pros:
- Great platform to connect students and tutors
- Short term flexibility may be good for some

Cons
- Subscription model could be improved for the student in terms of flexibility to use unused credit.
- Frequent price increases make the platform unreliable for those on a limited budget, or having to continually switch tutors
- Preply cares more about the money they take than the tutors or students
