What I like: Prompt, easy to read results.

What isn’t offered yet: My personal wish is that you would offer results that identify percentage of omega-3‘s bound to triglycerides and percentage o
f omega-3‘s bound to phospholipids. Specifically, DHA bound to phospholipids is much more easily absorbed by the retina. DHA in the retina is of particular concern to me.

What I plan to do is limit my omega-3 fatty acid intake to krill oil and salmon roe and retest in three months in order to get a result that will reflect the percentage of omega-3‘s bound to phospholipids.

The instructions were great making the test simple to do. The email communication telling me my sample was received and when to expect results was nice. The report nicely shows my ratios in the colored bar.

As someone raised a vegetarian, there are a few key things I'm likely to be deficient in.

Omegas is a critical one.
And fish oil is the best solution.

Omega Quant gave me the info I need to
see - that I'm in the healthy range for Omegas.

Now I know I'm taking enough omegas.

This intrigued my husband and I. I got significant higher score than him and we eat the same food. Interesting. He will start a supplement and we will redo test in 6 months. The test is very easy to perform on self. The result process was easy to obtain and understand.

OmegaQuant is an independent, CLIA-certified lab that offers nutritional & health status testing to researchers, clinicians and the public. We test:

  • Omega-3 Index
  • Vitamin D
  • Prenatal DHA
  • Mother's Milk DHA

Our goal is to offer the highest quality analytical services to researchers and to provide simple tests of nutritional status to consumers, with the ultimate purpose of advancing the science and use of nutrients to improve health.

Our Story

Dr. Bill Harris, a leading expert in omega-3 fatty acids, founded OmegaQuant in 2009. He obtained his Ph.D. in Human Nutrition from the University of Minnesota and did post-doctoral fellowships in Clinical Nutrition and Lipid Metabolism with Dr. Bill Connor at the Oregon Health Sciences University.

His interest in omega-3 fatty acids began with his postdoctoral work when he published his first study on the effects of salmon oil on serum lipids in humans (1980). Since that time he has been the recipient of five NIH grants for studies on the effects of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) on human health.

He has more than 350 publications relating to fatty acids, including omega-3s, in medical literature and was an author on two American Heart Association scientific statements on fatty acids: “Fish Consumption, Fish Oil, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease” (2002), and “Omega-6 Fatty Acids and Risk for Cardiovascular Disease” (2009) both published in the journal Circulation.

Dr. Harris co-invented the Omega-3 Index in 2004 and made it commercially available to the research community and the public in 2009. To date, the Omega-3 Index has been used as the standard measure of omega-3 status in more than 200 clinical studies.

Dr. Harris is also a Professor in the Department of Medicine in the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota.

Dr. Harris moved on as OmegaQuant’s President in late 2020 to establish the Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI), where he will go back to his roots of conducting research on fatty acids and health.

Excellent company

Excellent company, they sent me a second test kit as I hadn't provided enough blood to test. The results have proved that the symptoms I have are due to a vitamin deficiency.
Thank you for your service.

Super easy and helpful for establishing a need for more EPA

This was my 2nd time. It was super easy as the kit is perfect. My results came fast. I was surprised my omega index had fallen from the year before (10% —> 8%) but it is what it is. I was also surprised to see my DHA dominated my EPA (I’m glad I did the full test this time to see the details).
